The Tunisian National Railway Company confirmed on Thursday that no material damage or injuries were reported following the derailment of the last car of a passenger train linking Tunis to Ghardimaou.
According to an official press release, the incident occurred at 5:09 p.m. between the Sidi IsmaĂŻl and Bou Salem stations. The train left Tunis station at 1:05 p.m. The exact circumstances of this partial derailment were not immediately clarified.
The SNCFT indicated that the car concerned will be detached from the rest of the train in order to allow operations to continue in safe conditions. The travelers were transported to Bou Salem station, from which the company ensured continuity of the journey to other destinations by bus.
Central issue for passenger mobility
The railway company wanted to reassure users about traffic safety, stressing that this incident did not cause major disruptions or serious consequences. However, she did not specify whether a technical investigation would be opened to determine the exact causes of the incident.
This episode occurs in a context where rail transport remains a central issue for passenger mobility, particularly on the lines linking the north-west of the country to the capital.
