The Tunisian authorities temporarily closed the border post of Melloula on Wednesday evening in the Tabarka delegation (Jenouba) due to the spread of the two fires declared for two days in the forest near the post.
As a security measure, the authorities transferred traffic in the entrances and exits to the Babouch post from the Ain Drahem delegation pending control of fire by civil protection.
In a statement to the TAP agency, Jendouba Governor Samir Kouka said the closure decision aims to protect citizens and the fire border post which has ravaged large areas of the Melloula forest.
Recall that the Melloula border post is one of the main positions used by Algerian visitors with an annual average of more than 1 million 200 thousand visitors, according to the regional tourist commissioner in Tabarka Issa Marouni.
