Health crisis in Ghannouch: Several residents were victims of respiratory discomfort caused by toxic fumes from the Gabès industrial zone. Faced with this situation, Governor Ridha Nasibi and the director general of the ANPE, Mohamed Nacer Jeljli, summoned the managers of the industrial units on Wednesday to demand immediate and concrete measures.
The meeting brought together the officials of the Tunisian chemical group (GCT), experts from the ANPE, competent regional services and security representatives. The objective: to examine environmental breaches in the industrial zone and their repercussions on public health, especially after the respiratory discomforts that occurred at the night of Tuesday to Wednesday in Ghannouch, requiring care for several inhabitants.
Two weeks to act
Companies identified as highly polluting have been ordered to present a concrete action plan within a maximum of two weeks. These programs must prevent any new toxic broadcast and will be the subject of strict and rigorous follow -up by the governorate and the ANPE. The governor insisted on the total responsibility of industrialists and the absolute compliance with environmental standards.
The director general of the ANPE recalled the legal obligation of companies to preserve air quality and confirmed that the agency is available to provide technical support to help manufacturers comply with standards.
