The public prosecutor at the Jendouba court of first instance ordered, Thursday, March 6, 2022, the opening of an investigation against the governor of the region, under article 31 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to court spokesperson Alaeddine Aouadi, the case was entrusted to the second investigating judge of the same court. This decision follows a report received by the prosecution on the part of the Local Section of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH).
The LTDH accuses the governor of having held a meeting at the headquarters of the Aïn Draham delegation with students, during school hours and in the absence of their parents. He is also criticized for having mistreated them, intimidated and threatened.
The local league section thus asked the prosecutor to open an investigation into possible violence and ill -treatment inflicted on minors present at this meeting. It calls for prosecution against the governor and any other person involved, under the Children’s Code, the Criminal Code and the laws in force.
As a reminder, students from the Hammam Bourguiba college had recently protested the closure of the boarding school and the lack of means of transport. This situation had led the local and regional authorities to organize a meeting at the Aïn Draham delegation to try to resolve the problem, according to a statement published on the official page of the delegation and the administrative sources of the Governorate of Jendouba.
