The National Institute of Meteorology recorded, in the evening of this Thursday, March 13, 2025, a seismic shock in the governorate of Gabès, more precisely in the east of the city of Hamma. The shock, which occurred at 7:38 p.m. (local time), reached a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale.
According to the first analyzes, the epicenter was identified with the coordinates 33.91 ° latitude and 9.89 ° longitude. Although of low intensity, this shock testifies to seismic activity in the region.
This earthquake follows several tremors recorded in recent weeks in Tunisia. Between November 2024 and March 2025, Tunisia recorded a total of 20 seismic tremors. More recently, on March 4, 2025, a 2,9 magnitude shock was recorded in Meknassi.
These events recall that Tunisia is located between the African and Eurasian tectonic plates, which makes it subject to a moderate but constant seismic activity.
