Monday morning, several subscribers and regular travelers organized a half-hour sit-in at Kalâa Kebira station to denounce the abolition, for more than a week, of the Sousse-round-trip link, still displayed on the official program.
Difficult transport conditions
Mohamed Ali Sghaier, a regular daily journeys denounced the situation:
“Passengers are confronted with inhuman conditions: overloaded trains, permanent disorder and total loss of comfort”.
The protesters are demanding regular, dignified and reliable service, allowing them to join their workplaces in the capital in normal conditions.
A recurring problem
This social movement is not new. Similar sit-in has already taken place in recent years for the same reasons. In November 2024, a train connecting Gabès to Tunis had been blocked at Kalâa Kebira station by unhappy travelers, mostly SNCFT subscribers, due to the sudden and unpreted cancellation of the Sousse – UNIS. The passengers denounced the repetition of these deletions, the constant delays and the lack of communication on the part of the company.
The abolition of the link particularly impacts workers depending on this train to reach the capital in time. Some even fear losing their jobs because of recurring delays.
Petitions had been prepared to ask the authorities, until the President of the Republic, immediate measures, in particular the reintroduction of a morning departure from Kalâa Kebira allowing users to arrive in Tunis on time.
