The regional directorate of Civil Protection in Jendouba announced, this Friday, the interruption of the unnumbered road linking Oued Meliz to Dekhaila, at Wadi Reghai, due to a sudden rise in water caused by the heavy rains that fell in the region.
According to local authorities, the increase in the flow of the wadi quickly made the roadway impassable, forcing the emergency services to intervene to secure the scene and prevent any risk for users.
Civil Protection called on residents and motorists to use the Chemtou road as an alternative route until traffic is restored. She also urged drivers to exercise extra caution, follow road safety instructions and stay informed of the changing weather situation.
A recurring phenomenon in the region
Road cuts caused by flash floods are not unprecedented in the governorate of Jendouba. The mountainous and forested areas of the North-West regularly experience episodes of intense rainfall which cause the wadis to rise rapidly, particularly in Wadi Reghai, where other traffic interruptions have been recorded in recent years.
