The governorate of Sidi Bouzid is about to host an ambitious and strategic project for the Tunisian health system.
The construction of the Regional Hospital of category “B” in Jelma will begin during the first quarter of 2025, according to the declarations of Salah Selmi, deputy to the assembly of people representatives for the district of Jelma and Cebbala Ouled Asker.
A project integrated into the National Health Program
This project is part of a national program aimed at strengthening health infrastructure in several disadvantaged regions of the country. This program is funded by loans granted by the Kuwaitian Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). In addition to Jelma, three other regional “B” regional hospitals will be built in the governorates of Jendouba (Ghardimaou), Kairouan (Haffouz) and Siliana (Makthar).
An envelope of 52.3 MD
For Jelma hospital, an overall budget of 52.3 million dinars was allocated, distributed as follows:
37.8 million dinars for construction work
14.5 million dinars for the acquisition of modern medical equipment
Advanced medical infrastructure
The Jelma Regional Hospital will have a capacity of 105 beds and will include high -quality medical infrastructure and services:
Three operating rooms
Specialized services in general surgery, internal medicine, gynecology-obstetrics, pediatrics, anesthesia and resuscitation, as well as emergencies
Related services, such as medical imaging, laboratories, pharmacy and external consultations
A site on 5 hectares
A state land with an area of more than 5 hectares has been reserved to house this new hospital. According to forecasts, construction work will last 24 months. At their completion, the hospital should be fully operational, helping to improve access to care in a region where health infrastructure remains insufficient.
For Salah Selmi, this project is a response to the growing needs of local health populations. He stresses that this type of investment is crucial to reduce regional disparities and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
