The city of Mazzouna, in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, entered this Tuesday, April 15, 2025 in a total general strike, as a sign of mourning and protest after the collapse of a section of the secondary school, which cost the life of three students and injured two others.
All public establishments, with the exception of the local hospital, have closed their doors. The courses were suspended in all educational institutions, while administrations and municipal services have ceased their activity to mark the gravity of the drama.
After a night of anger and spontaneous demonstrations in the streets of Mazzouna, the morning of Tuesday was marked by an atmosphere of meditation. A funeral prayer was organized in the courtyard of the school, in tribute to the victims. It took place in the presence of a large number of teachers, students, parents, as well as representatives of the basic and secondary education unions.
The residents, deeply shocked, expressed their anger in the face of what they describe as flagrant negligence of local, regional and national authorities, reports the TAP agency.
Several votes have accused the Ministry of Education and regional officials of having repeatedly ignored the alerts concerning the state of dilapidation of school infrastructure in the region. Requests for repairing the collapsed wall would have been transmitted without any concrete measure being taken.
