The activity of the ferries connecting the island of Djerba to the continent resumed on Tuesday at midnight, ending a three -day stop caused by a strike by bins agents, announced Lazhar Jouili, secretary general of the basic union.

After three days of disruption, the crossings between Ajim (Djerba) and El Jorf (Médenine) normally resumed. The striking agents, denouncing the dilapidated and dangerous state of certain ships, agreed to suspend their movement. They say they are ready to initiate a constructive dialogue with the authorities in order to improve the quality of the services and strengthen security on board.

The claims

The union claims in particular the strengthening of the fleet, deemed insufficient and aging, as well as the transfer of the supervision of the bins of the Ministry of Equipment to that of transport, for better management.

Two ferries currently provide rotations in both directions between Djerba Ajim and El Jorf, according to data provided to the TAP agency. A third bac should be put into service soon in order to further streamline passenger and vehicle traffic.
