In the governorate of Kébili, work is underway to drill several wells in the oases of the region in order to respond to the irrigation water deficit which affects local agricultural areas.

According to Sofiane Ayadi, head of hydraulic resources at the Regional Agricultural Development Commission (CRDA), one of the major projects is to replace a very deep well in the oasis of El Izela, in Douz.

This well, currently located 1900 meters deep, will be closed, and a new substitution well will be drilled as part of a project worth more than 6.5 million dinars. The work has already started, with a progress rate of 20%.

In addition, the CRDA services are about to finalize a call for tenders for the construction of another deep well at the Oasis of El Atilet, in Jemna, in the delegation of Kébili-Sud. This well will be drilled at 2100 meters deep for an estimated budget at 8.28 million dinars. The work will start as soon as the administrative procedures related to the tender.

In parallel, two superficial wells recently drilled in the Msseïd oasis and Dar El Kosksi, in Kébili-Ville, were accepted. Other superficial wells is underway, including one at the Bazma oasis, whose work is carried out 70% at 250 meters deep, and another at RAS El Aïn, whose progress rate is 50% to 220 meters deep.

A drilling project for the Matrouha oasis, in the delegation of Rjim Maâtoug, will soon start at a depth of 330 meters.
