Confrontations between protesters and police in Ben Guerdane

This Monday, February 9, precarious calm reigned over the city of Ben Guerdane, in the governorate of Médenine. A calm that did not last after the start of new clashes between protesters and the police, reports the TAP agency.
Opening of an investigation after the death of a demonstrator
Following the clashes of Dhiba in the governorate of Tataouine, this Sunday, February 8, which ended in a dead man and 14 injured, the government took urgent measures after the meeting of the crisis cell in charge of monitoring the security situation in the country, in the presence of the head of government, Habib Essid, of the Minister of the Interior, Najem Gharsalli, of the Minister of Defense, From the Secretary of State for Security Affairs, Rafik Chelli, of the Secretary of State for Local Affairs, Hedi Majdoub as well as several security and military officials.
Urgent measures
These decisions provide for:

0 in the process of the circumstances of the death of one of the demonstrators.
Examine the possibility of revising the Tunisian soil exit tax imposed on the Libyans.
Display a government delegation to Dhiba to inquire about the socio-economic situation in the region.
Call political parties, the components of civil society and opinion leaders in Dhiba to appease tension in the region.
Impose compliance with the security premises that represent state sovereignty.

The circumstances of incidents, according to the government
According to the Presidency of the Government, the meeting focused on the circumstances of these incidents which, according to a statement, broke out following the fire of the National Guard post in the region and the homes of the chief of the National Guard brigade and two agents as well as the attempted assault against the post of border guard.

A protest movement has been organized, for almost a week, by the inhabitants of Dhehiba to claim the right to work and development and demand the restoration of commercial activity between Tunisia and Libya and the abolition of the exit tax imposed on the Libyans.
General strike in Dhiba
In addition, the city of Dhiba entered this Monday, February 9 on a general strike following the events that took place the day before. This strike, which was called by various components of civil society in the region, affected educational establishments and various administrations, according to TAP.
General strike in Tataouine
After a meeting that took place this Monday, February 9, between the Regional Council of the General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT), the Union of Farmers (UTAP) and the Tunisian Union of Industry (UTICA), a regional general strike was decided for this Tuesday, February 10, according to Radio Tataouine.
