A serious road accident occurred on the RN14 linking Gafsa to Sfax. Two people lost their lives and four others were injured, one seriously. Emergency services and the National Guard have opened an investigation to determine responsibility.
A violent collision between a utility vehicle and a truck
A fatal accident occurred early this Saturday on national road No. 14, between Gafsa and Sfax. According to a National Guard source cited by Mosaïque FM, the tragedy involved a utility vehicle leaving a farm road and a truck belonging to a company specializing in oil packaging.
The collision resulted in the death of two people at the scene. Four others were injured, including one in critical condition.
Open investigation
The injured were transported to the local hospital in Sened as well as to the Hédi Chaker University Hospital in Gafsa to receive the necessary care.
Civil protection units from Sened and National Guard teams from Gafsa intervened quickly to evacuate the victims and secure the area.
An investigation was launched by the National Guard in order to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident, in particular the conditions for leaving the utility vehicle on the main road and the possible responsibilities of the drivers.
An alarming national context
This tragedy occurs in a national context where the number of victims is experiencing an increase in 2025. Between January and August, more than 760 people have already lost their lives in road collisions across Tunisia – an increase of around 9% compared to 2024.
Despite a drop in the total number of accidents and injuries, mortality continues to increase, highlighting the urgent need for action to strengthen road safety, improve infrastructure and increase driver awareness.
