The civil protection and maritime guard units of Bizerte recovered, on Monday afternoon, five unidentified human bodies, washed up by the waves on several beaches of the Bizerte South delegation. This is what an official source from Bizerte civil protection told the TAP agency.
According to the same source, the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition and had partially damaged limbs, which suggests that they remained at sea for several days before being washed ashore.
The remains were transferred to the forensic medicine department of the Bizerte university hospital, after the completion of the usual legal procedures, in order to determine the exact causes of death and to try to identify the victims.
Local and judicial authorities have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of this tragedy which is similar, according to initial hypotheses, to a shipwreck at sea.
