Several delegations of the governorate of Kasserine recorded, on August 23 and 24, 2025, heavy rains accompanied by hail falls, causing agricultural damage of variable magnitude. The Ouled Daoud area (SBIBA) was the most affected, with more than 50% losses, while other localities have suffered more limited damage.
Violent precipitation accompanied by hail struck different regions of Kasserine for two consecutive days.
50% losses in Ouled Daoud
In Sbiba, the locality of Ouled Daoud recorded the heaviest losses, exceeding half of the production of olive trees, apple orchards and vegetable crops. In other sectors of the delegation, such as Fraïhia and Ouled Bouziane, the damage remained light.
In Sbeitla, the areas of Gonna, Mzira, Machrek Echams and Douleb have been affected by rains and hail, causing minor damage, especially in olive groves and market gardening.
In Jedeliane, the localities of Jedeliane-Ville, Aïn Hmadna and Aïn Oum Jedour have undergone light losses, limited to olive groves. In Hassi El Frid, the Seloum and Khenket El Jazya olive groves also suffered some damage.
Preliminary assessments
In a statement made on FM mosaic waves, Mohamed Hassan El Azhari, President of the Kasserine Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Union, stressed that:
“The first estimates show that losses exceed 50% in Ouled Daoud, while they remain limited elsewhere”.
The Regional Union of Farmers of Kasserine has announced that they are coordinating with the Regional Directorate of Agriculture to carry out a precise census of the damage and a detailed evaluation of the losses, in order to determine the measures to be taken for the benefit of affected farmers.
