A fire broke out yesterday morning aboard a trawler moored at the Zarzouna fishing port (Bizerte governorate), without making a victim.
The rapid intervention of civil protection units, supported by the sea guard and the structures of the port, made it possible to circumscribe fire and avoid its spread to other neighboring boats.
The governor of Bizerte, Salem Ben Yaâcoub, who also chairs the Regional Rescue Commission, told the TAP agency that the regional emergency intervention plan was immediately activated as soon as the alert was given. All the necessary logistical means have been mobilized in order to overcome flames.
Units from the French Navy and the Littoral Protection and Development Agency (APAL) also intervened to deploy floating dams and suck up polluting substances in order to avoid any contamination of port waters, he said.
The regional director of civil protection, Colonel-Major Hassen Al Ainoubli, said that more than four intervention vehicles and a team specializing in boats were mobilized. Thanks to their coordinated action, the fire was able to be mastered in record time, limiting damage to only material losses, especially on the 26 -meter -long trawler.
An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. According to the first observations, a short circuit is behind the claim, pending the final results of the investigation.
