The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, received yesterday at the Palais de Carthage the Minister of the Interior, Khaled Nouri, as well as the Secretary of State for National Security, Sofiene Bessadok. This meeting, according to a press release from the presidency, made it possible to review the country’s general security situation and to trace the main lines of the action to come.
During this meeting, Kais Saied posted a firm posture in the face of current security challenges, calling for an intensification of the fight against all forms of crime, and more particularly against drug trafficking, which he described as “scourge”.
The Head of State did not hesitate to point the finger at those he accuses of conspiking against Tunisian society: “Those who plotted to undermine state security, are now plotting to jeopardize the security of society,” he said.
Beyond security, the president has expanded his speech to the economic sphere, emphasizing the need to strengthen state efforts in the fight against speculation and monopoly networks.
He expressed his support for the Ministry of Commerce and Development of Exports as part of the dismantling of these parallel circuits which hardly impact the purchasing power of citizens.
The president also emphasized the crucial role of local authorities. He urged governors and regional officials to be more attentive to the concerns of citizens and to provide concrete answers to their expectations. “Legitimate claims must find appropriate solutions,” he said.
Finally, as part of the strengthening of territorial governance, the Head of State has decided to appoint Taïeb Dridi as a new governor of Jendouba, a strategic position in a region plagued by various economic and social challenges.
