Weather alert in Tunisia: thunderstorms, hail and rain up to 70 mm expected

The National Institute of Meteorology (INM) issued, Monday, September 22, 2025, a follow -up form announcing heavy stormy rain, accompanied by hail and strong winds. The accumulation could locally reach 70 mm, mainly in the north and the center of the country.

Intense precipitation in several governorates

From the morning, stormy clouds were formed in the western regions of the north and the center. The INM specifies that the rains will sometimes be intense in the governorates of Jendouba, Kef, Béja, Siliana and Bizerte.

At the end of the day, the bad weather should extend to Zaghouan, Tunis, Nabeul and Sousse, with cumulation generally varying between 30 and 50 mm, and which can exceed 70 mm in places.

Hail, lightning and strong winds

Precipitation will be accompanied by extreme phenomena: hail in abundant quantities, lightning, as well as gusts of wind temporarily exceeding 90 km/h during the passage of stormy cells.

These conditions are likely to cause traffic disturbances, falls of trees or damage to light infrastructure.

Rains expected until Tuesday

The INM indicates that the rains will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23, on the north and the center of the country. They will be locally intense in the afternoon, with a marked stormy character.
