The filling rate of the dams amounted to 38.7% on May 5, 2025, according to data published this Monday by the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI).
The water reserves now reach 917.047 million cubic meters, compared to 808.160 million on the same date last year, an annual increase of 13.5%. Compared to the average of the last three years, the increase remains more moderate, with an increase of 6.2%.
This water situation remains contrasted according to the region. Northern dams, which alone concentrate 91% of the country’s water reserves, display a relatively higher filling rate, reaching 45%. On the other hand, the levels are significantly lower in the center of the country (14.1%) and in the Cape Bon region (30.4%).
On May 5, water intake in the dams were estimated at 2.77 million cubic meters, supplied almost exclusively by the Northern dams. The samples recorded that day reached 1.35 million cubic meters.
While Tunisia faces increasing pressure on its water resources, these figures highlight the strategic importance of the North dams and the need for adapted management at the national level.
