The Secretary of State responsible for Water Resources, Hamadi Habaieb, expressed today, Tuesday, his concern about water management in Tunisia.
According to him, the situation is far from optimal, due to the multiple years of drought that the country faces. Water tanks, including dams, are currently filled at only 36.1 %, a figure that highlights the severity of the situation.
Although the recent rains had a beneficial effect on rainfall crops, however, they did not bring a significant improvement to the filling levels of the dams. This precipitation therefore did not have the expected impact on the available water reserves.
In a declaration to the TAP agency, the Secretary of State said that efforts are currently being made to best manage the available water resources. The objective is to spend the summer without encountering major difficulties, despite a particularly tense water context.
