The water reserves reach 731 million m³ to August 25, 2025, increasing compared to 2024. But the average of the last three years remains out of reach, and regional imbalances are widening.
Reserves upwards but still insufficient
As of August 25, 2025, Tunisian dams displayed an overall filling rate of 30.9%, or around 731 million m³ of stored water. It is an improvement of 32.3% compared to last year, but the level remains 9.5% lower than the three -year average.
Highlight water intake
Between September 1, 2024 and August 23, 2025, the cumulative water intake reached 980.3 million m³, up 49% compared to the same period of 2024. However, for the only day of August 25, the contributions (0.39 million m³) remain below the withdrawals (2.03 million m³).
The North monopolizes 92% of reserves
The distribution remains very unbalanced: the North dams are filled at 36.3% and concentrate 92% of the available resources. On the other hand, the situation is critical in the center (9.9%) and worrying in Cape Bon (21.2%).
Increasing pressure on resources
These figures confirm that Tunisia, faced with a structural drought, largely depends on the rainfall in the north. The pressure increases on the sustainable management of water, while the needs for irrigation and domestic consumption are constantly increasing.
