The United States Embassy in Tunis organized, this Friday, a round table this Friday to clarify the procedures for demanding an American visa and warning against the fraudulent practices of certain unauthorized “intermediaries”.
This meeting took place in the presence of the head of the consular section, Bobbie Neal, the vice-con -onsule Carolina Corcoran, as well as several representatives of the embassy.
In a context of a strong increase in requests – notably as the 2025 club World Cup approaches, where Tunis’ Hope will represent Tunisia – consular officials have called for vigilance. This craze is also fed by the organization of the World Cup in the United States in 2026.
The embassy denounces the growing appeal to intermediaries who claim to be able to facilitate the obtaining of the visa. “These people have no connection with the American Embassy, and they impose unjustified additional costs without any guarantee,” warned Corcoran vice-consul. Several candidates have been victims of erroneous documents, inaccurate information or unjustified payments.
The American authorities recall that the only official channel to start a request remains the site of the embassy. The cost of the visa is set at 611 Tunisian dinars ($ 185), non -refundable.
A new measure will come into force from May 1, 2025: the barcode of the DS-160 form (filled online) must correspond exactly to that of the appointment certificate. Any gap will result in rejection.
Regarding future sporting events, the embassy specifies that there is no “special” visa to attend. Applicants must follow the classic procedure, as with any other travel reason.
The processing times are estimated between 7 and 10 days, provided that you scrupulously respect the stages and documents required.
