Several dozens of academics, including deans of law faculties and legal science teachers, signed a petition made public on April 20, 2025. This text expresses strong concerns about the course of the trial in the so -called conspiracy against state security, which ended with heavy prison sentences up to 66 years, pronounced on April 19 by the anti -terrorist judicial center.
The signatories denounce numerous attacks on the principles of a fair trial: disputed designation of the judge, prolonged pre-trial detention beyond legal deadlines, absence of confrontations, and limitation of the rights of the defense. They also emphasize that some hearings have been held without the accused, calling into question the public nature of the debates.
Believing that these judgments have been made “apart from the fundamental standards of law”, academics call to guarantee the independence of justice and to respect the rights of defendants. They hope that the call phase will allow a review in accordance with the rules of a fair trial.
