A major turning point seems to be taking shape within the Tunisian General Labor Union. According to corroborating union sources, cited by several media including Mosaique FM, the general secretary of the central, Noureddine Taboubi, presented this Tuesday, December 23, 2025, his official resignation from his functions, by submitting the text of his letter to the central registry office of the organization.
According to the same sources, this decision comes in a context of strong tensions and persistent differences within the leadership structures of the UGTT.
Internal disagreements which have intensified in recent weeks, particularly during the last meetings of the national administrative commission, during which the secretary general has already hinted at the possibility of a withdrawal.
Waiting for confirmation
The resignation of Noureddine Taboubi, which has not yet been confirmed by the Central Union, now takes on a formal character on the administrative level. However, it only becomes effective after examination by the competent bodies of the trade union organization, the only ones authorized to rule on its acceptance or rejection, in accordance with the statutes of the UGTT.
This development opens a phase of uncertainty within the country’s main trade union center, at a time marked by major social and economic issues. The next decisions of the governing bodies will be decisive for the future, both organizationally and on the internal balance of the UGTT.
