A founding birth
January 1, 1996 marks a decisive turning point in the history of telecommunications in Tunisia. On this date, the National Telecommunications Office was officially created in the form of a public establishment of an industrial and commercial nature, in accordance with the law promulgated on April 17, 1995.
Behind this founding act lies a national ambition: to build an operator capable of supporting technological changes and sustainably anchoring Tunisia in the era of modern communications.
At the pace of technological changes
Since its creation, Tunisie Telecom has evolved at the same pace as the profound transformations in the sector. From traditional telephony to the rise of high-speed internet and digital services, the historic operator has accompanied the evolution of uses, continually adapting its networks and services to the needs of citizens, businesses and public institutions.
Over the decades, the company has played a central role in democratizing access to telecommunications. By extending its networks throughout the country, including in the most remote regions, Tunisie Telecom has contributed to reducing the digital divide and strengthening digital inclusion, making connectivity a lever for social and economic development.
At the dawn of its thirtieth anniversary, Tunisie Telecom relies on strategic infrastructures which bear witness to this journey. Three submarine cables connect Tunisia to international networks, while a network of certified data centers and more than 60,000 kilometers of optical fiber cover all regions of the Republic, supporting the growing needs for data and digital services.
A human and collective story
Beyond the figures and technical performances, these thirty years tell above all a human adventure. That of a public operator serving continuity, modernization and proximity to users. Engineers, technicians and executives supported each stage of this transformation on the ground, helping to make telecommunications an essential daily service.
Building on its heritage, Tunisie Telecom is approaching this new stage with the desire to continue its mission. Innovation, quality of service and support for digital transformation remain at the heart of its strategy, in a context where connectivity has become a pillar of digital sovereignty and national development.
