The Ministry of Justice will benefit in 2026 from a budget of 1.025 billion dinars, an increase of 4.22% compared to the 2025 financial year. This budget represents 1.6% of total public expenditure and 1.28% of the overall state budget, indicated Lamia Mejri, project manager in the office of the Minister of Justice, during a parliamentary hearing session devoted to the presentation of the budget project of the department.
According to Lamia Mejri, 1,216 recruitments are planned in 2026, including 600 in the justice sector and 467 in the prison administration. Among these new recruits are 100 magistrates, intended to strengthen the staff of the country’s courts.
The structure of the budget remains strongly oriented towards salaries, which represent 83% of the ministry’s expenditure, compared to 10% for management expenditure, 6% for investment and 1% for intervention expenditure.
Modernization and digitalization of the judicial system
The ministry will also pursue several structuring projects intended to modernize the judicial system. Among them are the construction and development of new cantonal courts and courts of appeal, the digitization and equipment of judicial archives, as well as the extension and upgrading of penitentiary establishments.
These investments aim to improve working conditions within courts, speed up the processing of cases and strengthen the transparency and efficiency of the public justice service.
