A “resistance sit-in” started yesterday September 7 at the end of the day before the American Embassy in Tunis yesterday, at the call of the Tunisian network of the standardization system.
The action, planned to last approximately a week, aims to denounce the support of the United States to the Zionist entity in its war against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and to express the rejection of American interference in Tunisian domestic affairs through the Congress bill entitled “Restore democracy in Tunisia”.
The sit-in coordinator, Ghassen Besbèstold the TAP agency that “The action will continue in principle until next Sunday, in protest against the climbing of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and in the West Bank, and against American arrogance in the Middle East and its attempts at hegemony in Tunisia, while supporting the global flotilla of resistance aimed at breaking the blockade of Gaza”.
He added that “The claims of the sit-in relate to the criminalization of normalization with the Zionist entity, the fight against all current and potential forms of normalization, the limitation of the movements of the American ambassador to Tunisia, the cessation of security and military coordination with the United States, the suspension of relations with this country, as well as the granting of support and total protection to its participants, faced with the risks of Zionist arrogance and aggression ” When navigating in the Mediterranean towards Gaza.
The sit-in started at 6 p.m. on the Place Zitounaa few hundred meters from the American embassy, with the participation of a few dozen demonstrators, pending the arrival of other participants, notably those enrolled on the lists of the world maritime flotilla which must leave from Tunisia to Gaza le September 10as well as personalities representing organizations and parties supporting this initiative and opposed to American interference in the Arab region and in Tunisian internal affairs. Two tents, tables, chairs and mattresses were installed in the square to allow protesters to spend the night there.
For his part, Dhaou Jallaliexecutive of the network of combating the system of standardization, indicated that the sit-in includes an artistic, intellectual, cultural and political program, one of the main activities of which consists of interventions on American imperialism and its interference against national sovereignty.
