Tunisia: women represent 30% of the diplomatic corps

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, stressed the essential role played by Tunisian women in the construction of the modern state since independence, in all areas.

He was expressed during the event entitled “International Women’s Day in diplomacy: Tunisian women and diplomacy, journey and achievements, experience and perspectives”, organized by her ministry to honor Tunisian diplomats and reaffirm the principle of equal opportunities.

The Minister stressed that despite the many challenges, women today represent 30 % of the Tunisian diplomatic corps. He also specified that 11 women are currently directing Tunisian diplomatic missions abroad. An advance, according to him, which positions the Tunisian woman as a lighthouse for the development of diplomatic work and for the promotion of peace and security on a global scale.

For her part, Florence Building, representative of the UN Women’s Office for Tunisia and Libya, praised the important place occupied by the Tunisian woman in the world diplomatic body, including in international organizations and at high -level positions. She called for increased inclusion of women in decision -making spheres.
