The Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT) launched a clear warning to power on Monday. Assuming national administrative medium to examine the general situation, social negotiations and pending files, the union center has denounced attacks and attempts to reach its central headquarters.
In a firm speech, the secretary general of the UGTT, Noureddine Taboubi, condemned the defamation campaigns and the corruption accusations aimed at certain trade unionists. “He who holds a file must present it to justice. We are not above the accountability. It is enough for this symphony, “he said, adding that the question is now that of” dignity and honor “.
Taboubi pointed out the authorities, accusing them of being responsible for the incident of August 7, when individuals tried to force the entrance to the UGTT siege in Mohamed Ali, after the sudden lifting of the security barriers by the police. “Place Mohamed Ali will not be open to anyone,” he warned.
The union leader has also denounced a “two -weight policy policy” in the management of demonstrations: certain UGTT activities are prohibited for lack of authorization, while those of his opponents take place freely.
Recalling the historical role of the UGTT in the national struggle and the defense of social rights, Taboubi insisted on the contribution of the organization to the cancellation of subcontracting in the public service, to the regularization of workers of the “mechanism 16” and “mechanism 20” devices, as well as to the defense of substitute teachers, repressed unionized activists and unemployed doctors.
For his part, the deputy secretary general of the UGTT, Sami Tahri, said that the strike is among the options on the table, but that the final decision will belong sovereignly to the reunited structure.
“The union will not make decisions in emotion, but with a keen sense of responsibility. The country does not need confrontation, “he said, recalling that the UGTT had played a key role in the national dialogue which had avoided a political confrontation in 2012.
Recall that the President of the Republic had implicitly mentioned that the UGTT was not above the law.
