Tunisia: UGTT press for the resumption of negotiations in the private sector

The Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT) calls for an immediate revival of social negotiations in the private sector, currently at a stop. This was said on Tuesday the spokesperson for the Central Union, Sami Tahri, on the sidelines of a training session held at the headquarters of the Monastir Regional Labor Union, reports the TAP agency.

Tahri highlighted the importance of these negotiations to strengthen the purchasing power of workers, strongly undermined by economic conditions. According to him, the prolonged suspension of social dialogue in the private sector “risks exacerbating social tensions”, especially since employees face a continuous deterioration in their living conditions.

Faced with this situation, the UGTT does not intend to remain passive. The union official said that a series of initiatives will be launched in the coming days to mobilize union structures and initiate, as soon as possible, “serious and responsible” negotiations with the social partners.

The union organization recalls, through this outing, its attachment to social dialogue as a must -see lever to preserve social peace and guarantee working conditions in the private sector, which employs a large part of the Tunisian active population.
