Tunisia is preparing to take a major step in the field of digital health with the creation of a Completely digital hospitalannounced Thursday August 14, 2025 Aymen Chekhari, head of artificial intelligence and the development of the digital system within the Ministry of Health.

National radio guestChekhari said that this digital hospital will be a first in Tunisia and Africa, stressing that some advanced European countries do not yet have such an infrastructure.

According to him, this initiative is part of the strategy of the ministry aimed at aligning Tunisia with international standards in the use of technologies and artificial intelligence in the medical field. The headquarters of the digital hospital will be located within the Ministry of Health, thus making it possible to provide various remote medical consultations Thanks to the mobilization of a network of specialized doctors.

A network linked to all public structures

Aymen Chekhari said that the digital hospital will collaborate with all public health establishments across Tunisian territory. He recalled that the experience of tele-medicine has already been launched at the Tabarka hospital (Jendouba governorate), with the remote reading of scanners for three patients, as well as the carrying out of ten medical examinations for ten patients at the local hospital in Chebika (Kairouan governorate).

The manager added that in the next three months, Medical specialties available at a distance will be extendedthus reinforcing the supply of digital care in the country.

The Ministry of Health plans to give Priority to interior and rural areas in the deployment of the tele-medicine center. “Citizens of distant regions will soon benefit from nearby health services thanks to artificial intelligence and modern technologies, thus reducing travel constraints,” said Chekhari.

This initiative places Tunisia at the forefront of the development of digital hospitals in Africa, paving the way for more equitable and faster access to medical care for all citizens, especially those living in isolated areas.
