Despite a 4.06% drop in the budget, Tunisia expects 11.5 million visitors and 8.1 billion dinars in tourism revenue in 2026.
The Minister of Tourism, Sofiene Tekaya, presented before the tourism and investment committees of the National Council of Regions and Districts her department’s budget for 2026. It is set at 167.078 million dinars, compared to 174.156 million in 2025, a drop of 4.06%.
Targeted budgetary adjustments
According to the minister, these credits are distributed between:
- the tourism and crafts program: 162,214 MD
- and piloting and support programs: 4,864 MD.
The decrease mainly results from the reduction in allocations intended for central services, linked to the completion of maintenance projects, including the renovation of the ministry’s headquarters.
It also affects the National Crafts Office and the Technical Center for Innovation and Support in Weaving and Leather, whose intervention budgets have been reduced.
Conversely, certain institutions benefit from an increase:
- +7.84% for the Tourism Careers Training Agency,
- +11.21% for the Higher Institute of Tourism Studies of Sidi Dhrif.
The Tunisian National Tourism Office (ONTT) recorded a moderate drop of 1.46%.
Rising forecasts
For 2026, the ministry anticipates:
- 11.5 million foreign visitors (compared to 11 million in 2025)
- 31.2 million overnight stays (compared to 30 million in 2025)
- and 8.107 billion dinars in tourism revenue (compared to 7.795 billion in 2025).
The craft sector forecasts export growth of 5.8% in 2026, compared to 5% in 2025 and 4% in 2024.
Vision 2030: consolidate the dynamic
Sofiene Tekaya affirmed that these indicators reflect a gradual improvement in performance despite budgetary constraints.
“The reduction in the budget does not call into question the growth trajectory initiated since 2023,” he declared.
Vision 2030 aims to attract 13.5 million tourists and reach 9.5 billion dinars in annual revenue, while strengthening the quality, sustainability and innovation of the Tunisian tourism product.
