The Minister of Equipment and Housing, Salah Zouari, confirmed this Monday, September 8, 2025 that the project to carry out the Tunis highway – Jelma is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country. 185 kilometers long, it represents an overall investment estimated at 1.7 billion dinars.
Visiting the governorate of Kairouan, alongside the Minister of State Domains, Zouari said that the progress of work currently reaches 30%. The tour concerned in particular the section of El Houareb, where several land under the areas of the State were made available to the companies responsible for the work, in order to accelerate the pace and to respect the fixed deadlines.
The Minister said that the construction of the motorway seat will be carried out in 2026, alone representing almost half of the overall cost of the project. According to the scheduled calendar, the work should be completed and the new highway operating in 2027.
Rehabilitation of agricultural tracks
On the sidelines of this visit, Zouari also gave instructions to the Regional Directorate of Kairouan Equipment and Housing in order to strengthen interventions on degraded agricultural slopes, in particular those leading to primary schools in rural areas. This work will be done in coordination with companies engaged on the motorway site, in response to the complaints of the inhabitants.
