Tunisia: The SNJT calls for massive national mobilization on November 20

The National Union of Tunisian Journalists is calling for broad and visible participation in the day of mobilization scheduled for November 20 throughout the country. The movement, organized in the Kasbah and in the regions, aims to defend freedom of the press, the dignity of the profession and the application of institutional commitments that remain unresolved.

The SNJT calls on journalists, media, organizations and civil society to come together this Thursday, November 20 for a national day of action.

In Tunis, the main rally will be held at Government Square, at the Kasbah, while simultaneous rallies will take place in front of governorate headquarters in all regions from 10:30 a.m.

The union insists on the need for media professionals to display their unity. He recommends wearing a red armband throughout the day, both during gatherings and in editorial offices and work offices.

The demands are multiplying

At the heart of the appeal, the SNJT denounces a series of institutional blockages deemed detrimental to the exercise of the profession. Among the priorities expressed: accelerate the establishment of the independent Commission responsible for granting the national professional journalist card, immediately renew authorizations for foreign media, still subject to restrictions, and remove all administrative or regulatory obstacles imposed on international correspondents.

The union also demands the application of the amendments adopted concerning the statutes of National Radio, Tunisian Television and the TAP Agency, in addition to the disbursement of funds dedicated to the press bonus and the audiovisual production bonus.

The SNJT also warns of the obstacles encountered by independent journalists in accessing self-employed status, considered essential for their professional formalization.

The union reaffirms its positions on the most sensitive issues such as the release of detained journalists, the end of prosecutions outside the framework of decree-law 115, guaranteeing the legal treatment of matters related to the press, as well as the immediate lifting of suspensions targeting the Nawaat and Inkyfada platforms.
