Tunisian justice has decided to place in police custody the general director of an oil company reporting to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines.
This decision was taken by the Prosecutor’s Office of the economic and financial judicial division, following investigations into alleged financial and administrative abuses within the company, reports Mosaique FM.
According to judicial sources, three other executives of the company, including a union representative, were also placed in police custody. The investigations are being carried out by the Central Economic and Financial Research Brigade of the National Guard in Aouina, as part of a case relating to suspicions of corruption and administrative embezzlement.
This file comes in a context where the Tunisian authorities are increasing controls in the public sector, particularly in strategic companies, in order to fight corruption and strengthen financial transparency.
Ongoing investigations will make it possible to determine the extent of the irregularities and identify everyone’s responsibilities.
