Tunisia: the Chinese will explore salt deposits

The Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy Fatma Thabet Chiboub, this Wednesday, July 16, 2025, received the vice-president of the company Shandong Haiwang Chemical Co, Wu Yonghong, accompanied by its delegation. Also present were Najeh Cherif, Director General of Mines, and Fathi Sehlawi, Managing Director of Manufacturing Industries. This meeting revolves around exploration and exploitation of Tunisian salts.

Indeed, the meeting made it possible to examine the prospects for strengthening cooperation, in particular after obtaining the Chinese company of two permits for exploring salts at Chott El Jérid Nord and Oued Dhehiba Sud.

The discussions also focused on investment opportunities in the production and enhancement of high -added mining salts and substances.

Chiboub has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to support and support investors in the field of mining resources, in order to allow them to develop their projects in the best conditions. It also underlined the constant desire to strengthen partnerships with large international industrial companies.

For its part, the Chinese delegation has renewed its interest in consolidating bilateral relations with Tunisia and expressed its intention to launch a new major project, with an investment estimated at $ 95 million. This project would make the production of around 92,000 tonnes per year of brome derivatives.

Created on January 27, 2003, Shandong Haiwang Chemical Co specializes in the production of chemical substances, including bromine (BR), with an annual capacity of 80,000 tonnes, as well as its derivatives, up to 170,000 tonnes per year. The company occupies first place in China and the third world level in this area.
