Tunisians returning to the country can now obtain a biometric passport aboard the ferries connecting Europe to Tunisia. An innovative service launched on the occasion of summer crossings, aimed at simplifying the procedures for nationals residing abroad.

Tunisians residing abroad can now renew or obtain their biometric passport aboard ferries connecting Europe to Tunisia. On the occasion of the first summer crossings, the general management of the border and foreigners police launched, Hirt, an unprecedented mobile service on the Tanit and Carthage ships.

This device allows travelers to submit their files, to carry out the administrative formalities and, in some cases, to recover their passport in less than 30 minutes. According to Moez Thabet, director of passports and travel documents, this initiative aims to lighten procedures and meet the specific needs of Tunisians established abroad, in particular students and students, he said in a declaration to the TAP agency.

Passengers on board foreign ships can also benefit from it. In parallel, counters have been installed in the country’s main entry points: at the Port de la Goulette, at the Tunis-Carthage International Airport, as well as to the main border posts. Support measures are planned for large families and people with reduced mobility, with strengthening of the workforce to better manage the crowds.

Another novelty: requests for customs exemption, formerly processed by mail, can now be transmitted by e-mail, in order to accelerate processing times.
