The Consul General of France in Tunis, Dominique Mas, said this Monday that a growing number of young Tunisians choose to continue their studies or their professional careers in France, as part of solid academic and professional partnerships between the two countries.
Speaking on the sidelines of the international forum “Migration: between realities and challenges”, held at the Cité de la culture in Tunis, Dominique Mas told the TAP agency that Tunisian students and researchers are among the most important university communities in France. About 14,000 young Tunisians are currently undergoing higher education in various disciplines such as medicine, engineering, life sciences, economics or mathematics. This figure, according to him, testifies to the high level of university training in Tunisia and the vitality of his youth.
He also pointed out that Tunisia occupies third place in obtaining residence permits in France, after Algeria and Morocco. A third of these titles are issued as “Talent Passport”, intended for highly qualified foreigners; Another third party concerns family reunification; While the last third is granted to students and researchers.
The diplomat also mentioned that France welcomes numerous BTS holders (Patent of Higher Technician) and professional diplomas, who continue their training or are part of the labor market through structured systems that meet the needs of the two countries.
Contrary to the idea of a prejudicial exodus, Dominique Mas considers that the mobility of Tunisian skills to France represents an opportunity to strengthen scientific exchanges and professional cooperation, especially in the light of joint investments in education and training.
Finally, concerning the visa and stay procedures, the Consul indicated that more than 80 % of the requests made by students or candidates for employment are accepted, specifying that the complete presentation of the required documents remains the determining element in the smooth running of these approaches.
