The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance has decided to postpone the examination of the case involving lawyer and former presidential candidate Samir Abdelli, while ordering the release of one of the people prosecuted in this case.

A hearing postponed and a request for release accepted

The court competent in matters of terrorist crimes has ordered the postponement of the hearing relating to the case of Samir Abdelli to a later date, while granting the request for release presented in favor of one of the accused prosecuted in the same case.

According to a judicial source, this decision was taken following the examination of requests made by the defense, in a case relating to suspicion of terrorist crimes. The court thus chose to continue the investigation while granting a partial release, reports Diwan fm.

A file open since 2024 still under investigation

Samir Abdelli, lawyer and former presidential candidate, was arrested during 2024, alongside other people involved in the same case, on the basis of elements appearing in the investigation file and investigations carried out by the competent authorities.

Judicial investigations are continuing pending the next hearing, during which the criminal chamber will have to rule on the follow-up to be given to this case, which remains pending before the courts.
