The Tunisian office of the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) announced the temporary suspension of its activities for a period of one month, following an order upon request received this week.

In a press release published Wednesday, the OMCT-Tunis Office indicated that this decision takes effect upon its official notification. During this period, the organization will no longer be able to carry out its missions of assistance and legal or psychological support to victims of torture and their families.

A protest announced

OMCT reaffirmed its commitment to respecting the law and legal procedures, while announcing its intention to take the necessary legal steps to contest the suspension measure. No details were given on the reasons behind this decision.

Based in Tunis since September 2011, OMCT works to prevent torture and protect victims through a network of lawyers, psychologists and partner associations.
