The Minister of the Interior, Khaled Nouri, presented the broad outlines of his department’s 2026 budget to Parliament on Monday, estimated at 6.24 billion dinars. He confirmed the recruitment of 2,900 additional agents and the acquisition of new helicopters to strengthen national security resources.

Despite regional security challenges, Khaled Nouri assured that the country’s security situation remains stable, emphasizing his ministry’s desire to consolidate trust between citizens and state institutions.

The ministry’s budget is distributed as follows:

  • 2,460 million dinars for the national security program,
  • 1664 million for the National Guard corps,
  • 374 million for civil protection,
  • 1132 million for local affairs,
  • 610 million for the command and support program.

Personnel expenses will amount to 4,161 million dinars, a decrease of 1.5% compared to 2025, thanks to a redistribution of credits between the different programs.

New recruits and strengthening of resources

The ministry plans to create 2,900 positions; 1000 in national security, 1500 in the National Guard, and 400 in civil protection. Thus, the workforce will reach 98,419 agents in 2026.

The minister also announced a program to modernize infrastructure and equipment such as the rehabilitation of security premises, the purchase of vehicles and helicopters for the National Guard, the construction and renovation of barracks and security posts, the development of the communications network, the strengthening of the scientific police, and the completion of the police and Coast Guard academies, as well as the rehabilitation of the national civil protection school.
