The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, called to further develop trade with the United States and to remove the obstacles that could hinder them, in order to take advantage of the opportunities available in the two countries and to open up new perspectives of joint investment.
By receiving, this Thursday, August 28, 2025, a delegation from the American Congress led by Mike Lawlerpresident of the subcommittee of the Middle East and North Africa falling under the Foreign Affairs Committee and member of the friendship group with Tunisia, and also including Ritchie Torres, member of the Financial Services Commission, as well as several of their collaborators, as part of a visit to friendship and work in Tunisia, the two parties reaffirmed the depth and solidity of the historical relations that have been the two countries Signature of the peace and friendship treaty in 1797, of which they celebrate the 228th anniversary today.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Mohamed Ali Nafti reiterated Tunisia’s desire to further elevate the level of bilateral relations through the intensification and expansion of the areas of cooperation, on the basis of mutual respect and the common values which found these relations, in accordance with the shared interests of the two friendly peoples.
The two parties reviewed the priority sectors, such as security, sustainable development, renewable energies and agriculture, which remain axes of common interest, in addition to academic, technological and scientific cooperation, considered as essential pillars of the human rapprochement between the two countries, at the service of mutual interests and the strengthening of the links of friendship between Tunisian and American peoples.
For its part, the American delegation praised the solidity of the bonds of friendship uniting the two nations, emphasizing the particular attention that Congress pays to the security and economic stability of Tunisia and to the strengthening of Tunisian-American relations, with the desire to bring its parliamentary support in various fields.
It has also highlighted the importance of creating bridges between economic players in the private sector, in order to support American investment opportunities in Tunisia and encourage cooperation in all promising sectors.
