An operation coordinated by the central administration of the judicial police led, Friday, September 19, 2025, to the arrest of more than twenty wholesale and intermediaries suspected of speculation and manipulation of prices.
The operation was carried out by the El Gorjani economic and financial research sub-directorate, in collaboration with the economic control services of the Ministry of Commerce and the municipal services concerned. It is part of a national campaign aimed at fighting the grabbing, speculation and manipulation of prices on the markets.
Targeted and judicial markets
The descents targeted several wholesale markets, including Bir El Kassâa, Bizerte, Moknine, Sfax and Sousse. At the end of the checks, more than twenty offenders were arrested and placed in police custody in order of the competent prosecution. The suspects will be presented to justice next week, where their situation will be examined in the light of the current investigation.
Prosecution against influential actors
As part of this national campaign, a previous operation carried out on September 17 had already targeted the most influential intermediaries of informal trade. Eleven people had been placed in pre -trial detention by the Ben Arous prosecution for grabbing, speculation and manipulation of prices, mainly in the fruits, vegetables and current consumption products. These measures aim to strike the “speculation barons” and to protect the purchasing power of citizens.
