The counter-admiral Hatem Souissi, director general of enrollment and mobilization at the Ministry of National Defense, detailed the terms of the third 2025 enrollment session, which will take place from September 1 to October 3, 2025. This session concerns young people born between 1990 and 2005, and in particular those born in the third quarter of 2005.
Enrollment centers and procedures
Invited on the airwaves of Jawhara FM, Souissi recalled that any Tunisian citizen aged 20 to 35 must appear in one of the five enrollment centers: Bouchoucha, Sousse, Kasserine, Béja and Gabès. Young people can fulfill their military service, submit a postponement request, or request an exemption.
“Very young Tunisian is required to come to one of the five enrollment centers (Bouchoucha, Sousse, Kasserine, Béja, Gabès) to complete his military service, or to file a request for postponement or exemption”.
“The military service law concerns any Tunisian citizen aged 20 to 35, and applied directly to young people born between 1990 and 2005”.
For postponements for health, studies or social reasons, it is necessary to present a complete file to the Directorate General of Enrolling in El Omrane, Tunis, or in regional enrollment offices. The postponement is granted immediately for a year, renewable.
Exemptions and specialized commissions
The exemption can be granted for health or disability reasons after examining files by specialized commissions. These commissions can grant the exemption or postponement or reject the file and convene the person for military service.
Regularization and exceptional exemption
Souissi said that some young people can be arrested in airports for non-regularization. These informative arrests make it possible to notify a judgment in absentia, then the individuals are released. To regularize their situation, the young people concerned can obtain an exceptional exemption:
“The young people concerned (between 20 and 35 years old) who have been the subject of prison judgments in absentia can regularize their situation by obtaining an exceptional exemption. They must recover the exemption document and present it to one of the military courts (Tunis, Sfax, KEF) to officially oppose the judgment. A hearing is then fixed on the same day, after which the person obtains a certificate of “lifting of the research notice” that he must file with the security services. »»
Tunisians residing abroad
Tunisian citizens living abroad can also request a postponement or exemption via the military attaché of the Tunisian Embassy of their country. Immediate postponement is granted to young people during studies or work abroad before 28 years.
Beyond this age, a final exemption can be obtained, subject to providing an official document of legal residence and employment contract abroad.
“Immediate postponement is granted to those who are being studied or working abroad and are not yet 28 years old. If they exceed this age, they can obtain a final exemption, provided they provide official documents proving a legal residence and an employment contract abroad. »»
