A 2024/2025 cereal season ended with a positive note, marked by an exceptional harvest and promising prospects for the next campaign. This is indicated by Mohamed Ali Ben Ramadan, representative of the Directorate General for Agricultural Production, on the sidelines of a national day devoted to the evaluation of the past season and to the preparation of the 2025/2026 sowing.
Quoted by Mosaique FM he explained that National cereal production has reached around 20 million quintalsthus recording An increase of 72 % compared to the 2023/2024 campaign. A result deemed “very satisfactory” by the agricultural authorities.
The collection centers have received Almost 12 million quintalsfar exceeding the average of the last five years. On this total, 11.3 million quintals were intended for consumptionwhile 0.7 million quintals were reserved as selected seeds.
Ben Ramadan also said that 1.002 million hectares were builteither 85 % of the scheduled area initially.
Substantial means mobilized
To achieve these results, the campaign benefited from large quantities of seeds and fertilizers ::
- 261,230 selected seed quintals,,
- 117,000 quintals of ordinary barley seeds,,
- 104,000 quintals of durum wheat,,
- And 269,000 tonnes of various fertilizers.
A 2025/2026 campaign already in preparation
The General Directorate of Agricultural Production provides for Sow 1,155 million hectares For the next campaign, including 854,000 hectares in the North And 301,000 hectares in the center and southern regions.
To ensure a good start, 573,000 quintals of selected seeds are being prepared and screening to cover all the needs. Furthermore, a program of 370,000 tonnes of chemical fertilizer is being set up, including:
- 120,000 tonnes of DAP,,
- 30,000 tonnes of super 45 (of which only 700 tonnes have been delivered to date),
- And 220,000 tonnes of ammonitrate.
The authorities intend to collaborate closely with the Tunisian chemical group to secure these supplies on time, in order to guarantee a productive and resilient 2025/2026 campaign.
