The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, received Wednesday September 10, 2025, at the Palais de Carthage, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, on a working visit to Tunisia at the invitation of Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians abroad. This visit was marked by a double dimension: the strengthening of bilateral relations and the reaffirmation of support for the Palestinian cause.

As soon as he opened his interview with the Iranian Minister Kaïs Saïed denounced a “systematic targeting of the region’s safety and stability”, pointing to the Israeli offensives in Gaza and in the West Bank. He reiterated the “constant and unshakable” support from Tunisia to the Palestinian people.

The president described the war during “war of extermination” and affirmed that neither the bombings, nor the missiles, nor the plans of forced displacement will end the Palestinian determination. He also warned of attempts at division orchestrated by Israel, believing that they are doomed to failure.

Expanding bilateral cooperation

At the same time, Abbas Araghchi and Mohamed Ali Nafti held an extended working session, in the presence of delegations from the two countries. The discussions focused on the evaluation of existing cooperation and the means of strengthening it in various sectors: sciences, culture, tourism, health and economics.

The two parties praised the current rate of their relations and agreed to activate the cooperation mechanisms, in particular through the good preparation of the next Tuniso-Iranian mixed commission.

Regional dialogue and international security

The Tunisian Minister praised the agreement concluded on September 9 between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA), hoping that it will appease regional tensions and promote the settlement of crises through diplomatic routes.

The two ministers insisted on the importance of regular consultation within Islamic and UN bodies in order to strengthen regional security and stability, while defending the right causes, in the forefront of which Palestine.
