The Minister of Health, Dr. Mustapha Ferjani, inaugurated this Thursday, June 12, 2025 an unprecedented medical service on the African continent: the very first public department specializing in eye tumors, within the Hédi Raïs of ophthalmology in Tunis.
This new service marks a significant progress for the Tunisian and African health system. Equipped with 16 beds – distributed in equal parts between men and women – it also includes specialized clinics, latest generation medical equipment and a specifically fitted space to accommodate children with cancerous ocular pathologies.
During the opening ceremony, Mustapha Ferjani stressed the importance of modernization of care and called for an enlargement of the use of artificial intelligence and telemedicine, in particular to bring specialized services closer to regions of the interior of the country, often less well served. The Minister also reaffirmed the commitment of his department to support the extension of the project, with the imminent creation of a unit dedicated to surgical interventions.
