The Minister of the Interior, Khaled Nouri, declared to the deputies that Tunisia is currently waging “a real war” against drug traffickers. His intervention on Monday took place during the examination of his department’s 2026 budget, marked by a strong emphasis on security, cybersecurity and climate prevention.
A “double trigger” security strategy
The minister unveiled a two-pronged approach to countering drug trafficking. The first axis is based on preventive action, aimed at identifying the routes and entry points used by traffickers from border areas. The second part concerns the dismantling of criminal networks through coordinated and targeted security campaigns.
Khaled Nouri welcomed the recent successes of the police, recalling that significant quantities of narcotics have been seized in recent months. These results, he said, reflect “the constant efforts of security units to eradicate this scourge which threatens Tunisian youth”.
Protection of schools and cybersecurity as reinforcement
Questioned by the deputies on security around schools and universities, Nouri insisted on the daily vigilance of his services. Patrols and control operations are carried out regularly to prevent risky behavior and guarantee the safety of young people.
The minister also highlighted the digital dimension of national security, stressing that Tunisia “is not immune to emerging threats” from cyberspace. He called for increased cooperation between relevant stakeholders to build an integrated national cybersecurity system, guaranteeing digital sovereignty and, by extension, state sovereignty.
