The secretary general of the Order of Pharmacists, Thouraya Naifer, announced this Tuesday, September 2, 2025 that the meeting of the vigilance committee, held the day before at the Ministry of Health under the presidency of the Minister, marked a decisive stage in monitoring the shortage of certain vital drugs.

According to her, the meeting made it possible to address urgent logistical and financial solutions in order to ensure the continuity of the supply and to avoid any disturbance of the pharmaceutical market.

Speaking on Express FM’s waves, she recalled that this committee, instituted by the law of 2009 and with a legal control of control over the manufacture and distribution of drugs, has not been activated in an optimal manner so far. She estimated that her traditional working methods no longer meet current needs, arguing for a complete scanning of the pharmaceutical chain monitoring.

As such, the Order of Pharmacists proposed the creation of a digital platform bringing together all the actors involved in the manufacture, import and distribution of drugs. The tool would allow more effective monitoring, in particular the strategic stock of vital drugs, and the adoption of preventive measures to avoid any break.

Regarding the current situation, the manager assured that the shortage affecting certain treatments, such as drugs for thyroid and insulin, should be absorbed next week, with a gradual return of all products to the market. However, it insisted on the need to rationalize the consumption of drugs, a practice adopted by many countries to preserve the sustainability of stocks.

Finally, it wanted to recall that generic drugs offer the same efficiency and the same quality as imported products, urging citizens to consider them as a safe and reliable alternative.
