The Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance decided, Friday, December 12, 2025, to postpone the examination of the case targeting Rached Ghannouchi and several leaders of the Ennahdha movement. The trial will resume on January 16, following a request from certain defendants who appeared at liberty wishing to have the necessary time to appoint their lawyers.
According to judicial information communicated at the end of the hearing, neither Rached Ghannouchi nor one of the co-defendants placed in detention agreed to attend the session. Their absence was recorded in the minutes before the court issued the referral decision.
The case, referred to the criminal jurisdiction by decision of the Indictment Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tunis, concerns serious charges. They concern in particular the alleged participation in a plot aimed at changing the shape of the regime, as well as other incriminations linked to state security. Several executives of the movement are concerned, some under arrest warrant, others at liberty.
One of the most sensitive
This case, considered one of the most sensitive of the current political period, is closely followed due to the institutional scope of the accusations and its implications on the Tunisian partisan landscape. The next judicial meeting, set for January 16, should make it possible to clarify the positions of the defense lawyers and to specify the timetable for the remainder of the trial.
